Shijiazhuang has research institutes of all kinds and 84 of them are at municipal level or higher. No. 13 and 54 Research Institute of CETC in addition to Agricultural Modernization Research Institute of China Academy of Science are all nationally renowned research institutes, taking the leading position in China in the field of aerospace and aviation, semiconductor, satellite communication, measurement and control technology, agricultural modernization technologies, as well as water resources. In the city there are 39 ordinary institutions of higher learning, 619 ordinary middle schools, 169 vocational middle schools, 2,402 primary schools and 660 kindergartens.
