Shijiazhuang is one of the major grain producing areas in China, with the nickname of “Grain house in northern China.” In recent years, the featured agriculture in the city develops rapidly. The construction of featured agricultural zone in northern China has reaped initial results: the featured agricultural industry is constantly expanding and the development pattern has taken initial shape which integrates regional distribution, specialized production and intensive operation. In 2006 the total output value from agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery is RMB ￥46.8 billion, including RMB ￥21.5 billion from agriculture. The total grain production is 4,852 thousand tons, production per mu of land is 439 kilograms. Sanlu Group has become a flagship enterprise fueling the development of agriculture and animal husbandry, whose production and sales of milk powder takes the leading position in its line in China.
